Who We Are.

The Christian Graduate Society (CGS) aims to grow the Christian graduate community of Cambridge in faith and fellowship, and to reach out to fellow students with the good news about Jesus. We welcome Christian postgraduates, postdocs and academics of all denominations as well as students looking to find out more about Christianity.

CGS is a member of the Association of Christian Postgraduate Groups, a network of self-led, independent groups with a common mission and values.

The Association is part of IFES Europe's Postgraduate Initiative, which partners with Forming A Christian Mind and UCCF Research. The Postgraduate Initiative has the twofold mission "From Christ to our research" and "From our research to Christ".

Events.

In order to promote the Christian faith and community among Cambridge graduate students, we hold several weekly, fortnightly, and one-off events.

Michaelmas Term 2023 Events.

Cheese & Wine Evening: Faith and Academia

Dr Dirk Jongkind of Tyndale House, Cambridge, will be giving a talk on how to live out the Christian faith in an academic context. Free cheese and wine (as well as non-alcoholic drinks and non-dairy snacks) will be provided. This is also a great way to get to know people in the CGS community. All are welcome!

Time: 7:30 pm, Friday 27th October 2023.

Location: the Round Church.

CGS Potluck Dinner

We will come together as a CGS community to enjoy good food and good company. Do come along to meet new people and catch up with friends! Newcomers are especially welcome. Bring a dish if you are able but we don't need everyone to bring food.

Time: 7 pm, Saturday 11th November 2023.

Location: Email cgs[at]cambridgesu.co.uk or see notices on the mailing list.

Weekly Bible Studies.

We run weekly Bible study groups that meet on various evenings. The groups meet on different days so that those who wish to attend can choose the day that suits them best, e.g. so that they do not have to choose between attending a church Bible study and CGS Bible study. These groups are intended to be appropriate for Christians as well as those who are investigating Christianity or just curious about what Christians believe. Email cgs[at]cambridgesu.co.uk for more information and to be put in contact with someone from whichever group would suit you best. Feel free to invite your friends! The details for each group are listed below.

Tuesday

Time: 7 pm for dinner (provided) and 7:30 pm for the start of the Bible study.

Location: A home belonging to two of our members. Contact cgs[at]cambridgesu.co.uk for the address and other details.

Wednesday

Time: 7:20 pm. Snacks and tea/coffee are provided.

Location: N2, Great Court, Trinity College.

Thursday

Time: 6:30 pm. Snacks and tea/coffee are provided.

Location: N2, Great Court, Trinity College.

Weekly Prayer Meetings.

Prayer is an awesome privilege we have to grow deeper in our relationship with God, bearing fruit to His glory. We spend time together committing our lives, friends, and city to God our Father. Our prayer is mostly focussed on the graduate community in Cambridge, as we pray for a revival of love for Jesus here, and for Christians to live boldly for Christ. You don't have to be a member of CGS to come, and first timers are always welcome. Email cgs[at]cambridgesu.co.uk for more details.

Time: 8 am - 9 am during term time. Refer to emails on the mailing list for updates on when prayer meetings pause and resume.

Location: N2, Great Court, Trinity College

Breakfast (bread, tea, coffee, etc) is usually provided.

Term events.

Each academic term we run events ranging from talks (previous topics have included the historical reliability of the Gospels and relating academic work to the Christian faith) to socials such as picnics and potluck dinners. Details can be found in the term card (sent out on the mailing list).

Events for International Students.

CGS also runs events for International Students, including the International Student Welcome at the beginning of the year. This leads onto events like International Food Evenings, Christmas parties, Garden parties and more! This are great things to invite your friends to and offer our community with the hope we have. Please email cgs[at]cambridgesu.co.uk for more details.

Calendar.

To add CGS events to your personal electronic calendar, click the + sign in the bottom-right corner of the calendar frame shown below. This calendar does not include the weekly Bible studies; please contact us by email if you would like more information regarding a particular group.
